When you decide to get a pet, you’ll know that there are certain things you have to do to ensure they have the very best, healthiest, happiest life possible. This will including feeding them the right foods, exercising them, being with them, grooming them, and more. But there are plenty of other, possibly more unusual, things you’ll need to do when you’re thinking of how to make the best life you can for your pet. Although there are dozens to consider, we’ve put together just a few to get you started.
Protect Their Food From Ants
Ants are a big problem during the summer, and they can easily get into your home and your food. They can even damage your property. Most of the time, you can prevent this from happening by cleaning up after every meal and ensuring that all the food in your cupboards is sealed correctly. However, when you have a pet, you might find that the ants make a beeline right for their food. It’s kept on the floor so it’s easy to get to, and it’s often left unattended between the animal eating their fill and the owner disposing of the waste.
There are a few things you can do to prevent an ant problem around your pet’s food. The first is to be present when your pet is eating, and then remove the entire bowl and clean it once they’re done. The second is to place the bowl of food into a shallow bowl of water. The ants can’t get to it anymore, and your pet can drink their fill as they’re eating.
Brush Their Teeth
It’s hugely important to help your pet look after their teeth, and above all, when it comes to keeping your dog’s teeth healthy, you can also prevent bad breath, which is one of the most off-putting things about owning a dog. When it comes to cleaning your pet’s teeth, you might think it’s an impossible task, but even though it is sometimes difficult, it is also necessary.
If you’re unable to clean your dog, cat, or other pet’s teeth yourself using a special animal toothbrush, then you may want to try buying them treats or toys that help take care of their teeth. Alternatively, if a big problem needs to be taken care of, a trip to the vet will be best, where the pet’s teeth can be checked after they have been put under sedation.
Rainy Day Dog Or Cat House
Dogs will need to be let out into the yard to relieve themselves and get some exercise a few times a day. You may also choose to let your cat outside. If you do, it can be wise to invest in a rainy day house for them in the garden.
Although dogs will often come when they’re called, they may want to explore a little longer, and cats will go wandering for as long as they want to. If it’s raining, having a waterproof house for them (which could be just an upside-down bucket with a hole cut into it) means that they won’t be too uncomfortable if they get caught out in the rain.
