Yes home. ”
A safari park?! Is she mad?! I always said she was a bits of a monkey!”
Believe it or not my birth certificate states that I lived at Woburn Wild Animal Kingdom (before it later became Woburn Safari Park). My mum and dad were keepers along with my granddad and god parents.
I wasn’t there long and soon moved out of the caravan and into a brick house in a nearby village.
But, wow, what a claim to hold. I didn’t just live in Woburn ( A very posh and very expensive village to live in) but I lived in a safari!
My dad continued to work at Woburn for a long time and I have many memories as a young girl visiting the park and being extremely privileged enough to go ‘behind-the-scenes’ many times.
Not many kids can say that they grew up seeing all of those animals regularly. Lions, wolves, bears and elephants.
It’s lovely that Woburn is literally 10 minutes down the road from us and we can pop by when we like, so I can show my children a little slice of what I had when I was little.
Here is my birth certificate, taken by the entrance into the park. ‘Berrieman’ is my mothers maiden name.
