This October sees the return of National Home Security Month (NHSM), urging you to consider the way you keep your family, possessions and home safe by creating awareness around the importance of home security. Last weekend we were targeted by burglars. They broke into our back garden and our secure shed. They cut locks and grabbed what they could. All under our noses at 6am! We were gutted. But, if it can happen to us (and I say this as we THOUGHT we were safe!) it can happen to you.
Last year, it was reported that domestic burglary incidents had risen by 8% across the UK*, with just 5% of these being resolved by police**. Despite such figures, around a quarter of us still admit to having no home security in place.
Sponsored by leading home security specialists Yale UK, the annual initiative is returning 1st October to bring you advice on how to protect your property with the theme ‘Make your home your castle’.
Your home should be a place to take pride in and spend quality time with loved ones. However, much like a castle needs to have defences in place from attacks, you need to make sure you protect your property from the threat of burglars.
To help combat the rise in thefts, NHSM is highlighting a different element of home security each week.
The first week will see the launch of the campaign, kicking-off with a focus on home alarm systems. From traditional to Smart, NHSM will be exploring how alarms act not only as an excellent visual deterrent but can also provide remote protection for your property.
The second week delves into security standards, exploring traditional window and door locks, and the following week examines outdoor security.
Next, as the clocks wind back in week four, we’re looking forward to all things Smart security. From Smart Door Locks to Smart Home Alarms, CCTV kits and IP Cameras, NHSM is discussing how the rise in Smart technology is transforming how we secure our homes.
The final week takes place during the build-up to Halloween and Bonfire Night – statistically the worst time of year for burglaries.
As headline sponsor, Yale will be on hand to offer advice, as well as launching exclusive offers on home security solutions to ensure your castle is winter-ready.
