“You won’t see our Christmas advert on TV this year.
But we want to share our ‘No Palm Oil’ story with you this Christmas.
Say hello to Rang-tan.”
Iceland’s new Christmas advert has been banned for being too political. TOO POLITICAL. Highlighting the effects of horrific palm oil to the lives of Orangutans is TOO POLITICAL.
The advert which is for the supermarket Iceland, was created in collaboration with Greenpeace. Its aim was to help raise awareness of the palm oil industry which has killed countless orangutans and has now made the species endangered. Clearcast, the body responsible for vetting ads before they are aired on TV stated that the advert was in breech of rules banning political advertising laid down by the 2003 Communications Act.
Earlier this year Iceland promised to remove all palm oil from it’s products by the end of 2018 in response to the deforestation in South East Asia. This Christmas Iceland have announced 100 food products that don’t use palm oil as an ingredient, so you can enjoy a palm oil free Crimbo.
You won’t see our Christmas advert on TV this year, because it was banned. But we want to share Rang-tan’s story with you… 🎄 🐒
Will you help us share the story?https://t.co/P8H61t6lWu— Iceland Foods ❄️ (@IcelandFoods) November 9, 2018
Did you know…

It’s a shame that Iceland’s ad about #PalmOil has been banned from TV for being “political”. Concern for the planet isn’t political, it’s #ethical! You won’t see it on TV this Christmas, but you can see it here: https://t.co/oIMihDaaXl

Iceland’s Christmas TV about rainforest destruction banned for being too political
This is a disgrace. How can protecting life on Earth be ‘too political’? More likely it challenges vested interests that are too powerfulhttps://t.co/ToqJMHXoHq
