Our 2020 Plans

Wow, 2020 already! Happy New Year!

I’ve been rather quiet on my blog over the last year. So much has happened in my personal life, that has taken up so much of my time. I went back to work in Adult Care services, I had a promotion too and I’m working on my diploma. Our son, had his syndactyly operation, which was somewhat of a success (I promise to write about the operation soon!). I passed my driving test… finally! And, our self sufficiency lifestyle took up the remaining free time on my hands. 2019 was certainly eventful, fun, tiring and exciting. So, what do we have planned for 2020?

Kids go back to school

Next week, our children go back to school. It always seems so quiet when they go back, but it will be even quieter for me. Our smallest child Jimmy, will be starting nursery. Just 2 afternoons a week, but it will be the first time that I’ve been childfree at home for almost 8 years. I have grand plans for my 6 hours a week child-free time. I am going to go to the bathroom in peace, catch up on laundry and eat chocolate WITHOUT HAVING TO SHARE.

Don’t get me wrong, I am a little sad that the time has come for all 4 of my babies to not be by my side 24/7. How has the time passed this quickly? Shocking really.

Jimmy’s Operation Number 2

Back in August, Jimmy had his operation to release his Syndactyly, which he was born with on both hands. It was a long operation, what went well. Now a few months have passed, it is clear that he will need another operation to release some of the tight scarring.

Now we know what to expect, with experience from his first operation I wont be such of a nervous wreck like last time.

I have promised you all an in depth write up of his operation and our experiences, which I shall publish soon.

Most of you will know that we try to live as self sufficiently as possible. The last 4 years we have poured blood, sweat and tears into our garden and every year our success has grown.

We are still picking vegetables from the garden most days, so our hard work is now paying off all year round. Our Christmas dinner was gorgeous, with home grown carrots, parsnips, potatoes, brussels sprouts, beans and eggs from our chickens to make the Yorkshire pudding!

This week I need to sort through my packs of seeds, and create my yearly plan, so I know what to sow, when to sow it and where in the garden each variety will go. This worked well for me last year, and it proved that a well detailed plan works wonders.

I also hope to launch my #SelfSufficiencyClub once more! My daughter Willow will certainly be creating more videos for her YouTube channel, Gardening With Willow.

More Shows

We have been yearly visitors to Gardeners World Live and various other horticulture shows over the last few years. If you’re visiting any of these shows please do let me know, as you may spot us there! The last 2 years, Jimmy has ended up on stage with Gardening Guru’s Adam Frost and James Sinclair. I wonder if he will make the main stage again this year?

Be More Selfish

Yeah, you read that right. This last year has seen me spend a lot of time with other people. It’s nice to spend time with family and friends, but sometimes you just need to spend more time with yourself.

My mental health took a sharp decline this year, which saw my antidepressant medication double in strength. My close friends have been an incredible support for me, which also made me realise who my true friends really are.

I don’t want to be selfish by jetting off on holiday for a week without the kids (that’s just not my cup of tea) but I will be spending more time on my own running, walking with nature, crocheting or writing. If I want to hang out with friends, I’ll make sure it’s the friends who make me feel great and not a burden.

I am currently reading the book The Subtle Art Of Not Giving A Fuck, and it’s a real eye opener.

Write More

My blogging took a sharp decline in 2019. I was so busy with so much stuff that I forgot to do what I enjoyed the most. I put off writing blog posts, because I doubted if my writing was good enough. I remembered that I used to write for me. I may even finish writing the book that I started 2 years ago… HA!

And You?

What are your personal plans for 2020? Let me know in the comments!
