Use A Safe, Mineral-Based Sunscreen Every Day
Apply a mineral-based SPF every day. UV radiation is carcinogenic. UV rays are also the main cause of the texture and color changes that make skin look older. To protect your skin, using a mineral-based sunscreen that has an SPF of 30 of more and apply it as the last step of your morning skincare routine every day, whatever the weather. Look for active ingredients in your sunscreen like zinc oxide or titanium dioxide. Mineral skincare is a physical barrier, so it should be applied last, before your makeup. Any skin care products you apply after your SPF won’t penetrate.
Always be mindful of how much time you spend out in the sun, and wear hats and other protective clothing during the hottest parts of the year.
Try Supplementing Collagen
Collaegen is the most abundant protein in your body. Unfortunately, our natural reserves of this protein that we need deplete as we get older. Collagen supplements contain amino acids, which have been shown to encourage healthier hair, skin, and nails. If you can ingest hydrolyzed collagen peptides, the supplement is absorbed by the body and then can support your natural college levels. The cells’ fibroblasts are stimulated (which is what makes collagen and elastin in the first place), which gives you a healthy, firm, glowing complexion. There is plenty of data to back this up too. Research shows that collagen peptides keep your skin elastic and hydrated.
You don’t need a harsh scrub or a rough washcloth. Light exfoliation, with a non-irritating acid cleanser or toner that dissolves the dead skin cells on the surface of your skin to reveal the glowing skin underneath. Removing the top layer of excess dead skin cells will smooth out your skin texture, brighten your complexion, and let your skin better absorb your skincare products, like the oils you use. If you know the benefits of baobab oil, for example, you want your skin to absorb it.
Take Care Of Your Gut
Underlying health issues in your gut can show up in the skin, causing issues from blemishes to flushing. Your gut health is complex, but it is very important, for reasons beyond your skin’s appearance, to take the time to learn how to properly care for and nourish your own unique gut needs. As a general guideline, anything that isn’t good for your gut (such as sugar or processed food) can lead to gut microbial imbalance and trigger oxidative stress and inflammatory processes, not just in your gut, but throughout your whole body. Over time, these imbalances can start to show in your skin.
You don’t need to invest in hundreds of lotions of potions to have great skin. The natural option can be just as effective, and give you the skin you want.
