As a mum of 4, I know all too well the feeling of exhaustion and tiredness. I crave peace and quiet and I dream of the chance to relax without the kids for a much needed rest. I know I am not alone with this feeling and it has been a hot topic amongst my mum-friends that we would all love to escape for a long weekend away. This summer, we WILL have a Momcation, we need to. The benefits of a mini-break are astonishing. I firmly believe that every mum should take a break away… even if it’s just to celebrate how awesome you are!
Obvious reasons to take a Momcation
- Noone watching you pee
- You wont hear the continuous drone of Cbeebies
- You will eat a hot meal
- No need to share a bath-tub
- You wont have to share your box of Jaffa Cakes
- No house work or laundry to worry about
- You most certainly wont hear ‘Muuuuuuuuuuuuuuum’ 10,000x per day
Time To Get Away
While time away on your own may seem like a dream come true, taking time away with your girlfriends would be just as lovely. And bloody hilarious. There are plenty of places that offer large group accommodation so you can all go away together and stay in one location in the countryside.
I much prefer the idea of escaping to the middle of nowhere, over a city break. Just the thought of the hustle and bustle of a city does not make me feel relaxed. Sitting in a country garden, surrounded by flowers, fields and wildlife while sipping on a cold white wine with my mates, in our dressing gowns, feels like bliss.
My friends and I were checking out our new favourite holiday website www.partyhouses.co.uk to see what kind of places there are for us to explore. Our favourite has to be a stunning house in Sussex, it has a spa, a tennis court, a swimming pool and a jacuzzi. PURE FREAKIN’ BLISS!!!! The cost can seem quite steep but if there are a lot of you going, it turns it into a cheap mini-break.
Some accommodations allows pets, so you can all have a Momcation with your pooches too. My mum-friends all have dogs, and I have 2 dogs who love exploring new places, so our pups would all have their own kid-free mini-break too.
Why It’s Good For You All (Kids Included) To Take A Child-Free Break
I’ve noticed a few little signs that I am in desperate need for a break. Symptoms of Breakneededitis include getting irritable at silly little things, slacking with the housework or lacking general interest in doing things and locking yourself in the bathroom for a pee because you just need 20 minutes alone time (normally accompanied by scrolling through Facebook).
Over time, you get tired. Your stress levels increase and you’ll feel like all you do is hulk-out at your kids. You’ll slowly start feeling like the worst parent in the world and your children will miss their happy mummy. This is natural human behaviour. You shouldn’t ever feel guilty about this. Every single parent will feel like this from time to time. It’s called feeding ‘touched out’.
Having some child-free time will recharge your batteries and give your kids a break too. Perhaps they could go stay with grandparents (giving Daddy a break too) or have a couple of special days having bonding time with the main man in their lives. You all get a change of scenery and a chance to bond (bonding with your besties is needed from time to time) and after a few days you will all feel refreshed and back to your happy selves.
There is no shame in asking for help and wanting to take a short much needed break. You’ll all be happier much after. Plus… think of all the awesome Instagram content you’ll create while away!
