We’ve been playing so many new games these last few weeks! It seems to be that the popularity of tabletop games is on the rise and this excites us so much. People seem to be stepping away from their digital lives and bonding as a family without the need for screens and wifi. Today, I bring you a review of the hilarious game Wally The Washer, and you also have the chance to win your own copy of the game. Just in time for Christmas too!
Wally the Washer is a fun game of chance where players watch Wally spin, and when his door is opened you grab your clothes as they tumble out… but watch out for the smelly sock! If the smelly sock falls out of the machine you must put all of your clean clothes back into Wally and you have to start again… and wear a giant clothes peg on your nose! How embarrasing!
Set Up & Play
Set up is super easy. Just pop 3 AA batteries into Wally, stick on his eyes and the sock’s pattern (these are is just stickers) and you’re good to go. Load Wally with the clothes and set him on to spin. Spinning starts automatically once the machine is turned to ‘on’.
The youngest player goes first, they can let Wally spin for as long as they like. When they choose to, push down on the soapbox which shall open Wally’s door, sending clothes falling out. Each player quickly picks up the clothes of their colour and hangs them up on the washing line.
If the dirty sock falls out, it means that clothes weren’t left for long enough to spin. Players must put their clothes back into Wally. The player who stopped Wally, must place the giant peg on their nose, and wear it until the dirty sock falls out again! This had my 5 year old in hysterics when her sister had to wear the peg on her nose. It was possibly THE funniest thing EVER!!!!
The player who collects all of their washing first is the winner. If 2 or more player’s winning pieces fall out at the same time, the winner is the person who hangs it on the line the fastest… so be quick!
My 3, 5 and 6 year old girls absolutely loved this game. They sat playing it for well over an hour, despite actual game play only taking around 10 minutes. They just kept playing again and again. I think for older children, the game could get a little boring quite quickly, but for children of pre-school age, it really is a much-loved game. My 3 year old had a friend round to play, and they sat for well over an hour just playing with Wally and hanging the clothes on the lines, without any structure. The peace and quiet was amazing!
The game is made entirely of plastic, something for those of us trying to live a more plastic-free lifestyle may struggle with, but the game is well made and would last years with careful play.
