History Heroes is an award-winning card game for the whole family. It’s all about who made history, how and when. This card game is super easy to play and very addictive!
There are 11 historical topics to choose from, but I shall be showing you the London and Space decks, which is what we have been playing recently. History Heroes is a great way of learning and remembering important historical facts in a fun way… ideal for test revision!
Each pack of cards contains 40 cards, each listing 6 facts. You can choose from easy, medium or hard questions too, great for when you’re playing with a group ranging in different ages. All players have to do is listen to the facts, and guess who the History Hero featured on the card is! At the bottom of each card is also a hilarious Joker Fact to get players giggling. This small fact has to be one of my favourite features on any card game I have ever played. Some are side-splitting!
How to play
Playing History Heroes is a piece of cake! At the start of the game, shuffle all of the cards and deal them out to all of the players equally. The youngest player starts. They read a card from their pile to the player to their left, asking either the green (easy), yellow (medium) or red (hard) questions. If the player correctly identifies the History Hero on the card, they win that card. They then read to the player to their left, and so on. If they cannot identify who’s on the card, simply go around the players until a victory is claimed.
The winner is the player who has the most cards in their winning pile after all cards have been read.
There are other ways to play, and players are encouraged to make up their own games with the cards too! You could also:
- Use the images and ‘Joker Facts’ for clues and fun
- Use the cards to play Charades
- Pick a hero and have a hot air balloon debate
- Use the cards to play a memory game
We invented our own game by making up 5 facts and reading one from the card as a true fact. Players had to guess which fact was the ‘bogey’. This has us all laughing!
Small packaging so ideal for taking on holiday, or playing on a long journey. The deck of cards is just a little larger than a standard pack of playing cards and can easily fit into any handbag, rucksack or car glove box.
The games are aimed at players aged between 8-80 (but I’m sure if you’re over the age of 80, you’ll have just as much fun too!). I think players under the age of 8 may struggle unless they are little history buffs!
I really enjoyed this game and so did my husband. We didn’t play with our children as they are all too small to play the game yet, but I’m sure as they get older, we shall all be able to enjoy the game together. We enjoy games where we are encouraged to make our own games and rules up, so this game is perfect for us, as we love to be inventive. I am thoroughly impressed with the quality of the cards, the artwork and the ease of play. A great game for all who enjoy history.
