6 Things Everyone Needs In Their Homes To Help Make The Best Meals

When it comes to making delicious meals at home, it’s no secret that having a well stocked, fully functioning kitchen is incredibly important. Whether you’re cooking up a feast for your family or trying to perfect your cooking skills, having everything you need is essential. With that in mind, here are 6 things everyone needs in their kitchen to help them make the best meals:

Decent Pots, Pans and Other Crockery

If you’re pots and pans are looking a little bit worn then it’s probably time to think about investing in some more. As they’re often used on a daily basis it doesn’t take a lot of them to weather, so consider splashing a little bit more cash to ensure you’re getting ones that are going to go the distance. The more you spend, the longer they’ll last.

People assume that because we live very frugally, we often buy cheap items to save money. In truth, we spend more money buying daily items. We find that if we buy excellent quality items, they last 10x longer than cheap tat. Saving money in the long run.

A Pantry Filled With Essentials

Having a pantry is essential as it gives you the space to stock up on all of the essentials you need for meals. You can fill it with your basic tins, essential ingredients and any non-perishable foods you may have. Not only will it mean you always have the stuff you need to create incredible meals, but you also have an amazing space to store everything.

Our pantry shelves are stocked with jars of lentils, split peas, quinoa, and other dried beans and pulses. They fill out meals, for less and ensure we have a healthy go-to range of food for our daily meals.

A Good Set Of Kitchen Knives

Although it may seem as though any old knives are good enough for cooking, you’ll be surprised how much difference a good quality set can make. If you invest in high-quality kitchen knives, they’ll make your life so much easier and ensure you’re getting that perfect chop every time.

We’ve had ours for 7 years and are in desperate need of sharpening. They’re starting to look a little shabby, but I’m worried that if I replace them, I wont get on with the new ones!

A Well-Stocked Spice Rack & Fresh Herbs

Every kitchen should have a spice rack, but the key is to ensure it’s always well-stocked. Whenever you’re about to run out of a particular spice, ensure you get it replaced early to avoid an unseasoned dish. If you’re looking for inspiration of what spices you should always have stocked in your kitchen, you can view this handy list here.

If you really want to up your cooking game, try growing and stocking your own fresh herbs. Not only do they really increase the flavours in a recipe, but they’re super simple to grow and maintain in your own garden or kitchen. The best thing to do when starting to grow your own herbs is to start small, then build your collection up once you’ve had a little bit of practice. You’ll pick it up in no time!

A Food Processor And Other Appliances

Although it’s great to do everything by hand, having a food processor and other kitchen appliances is a great way to minimise the time you spend cooking. These appliances are designed to make your life easier, so it would be rude not to take advantage of them, right?

I have a Nutribullet, that I don’t just use for smoothies! I also blend uncooked vegetables for soups (you can’t put hot veg in a N’Bullet!) to save time blending hot food later. I also love my electric whisk, I’d be lost without it as I use it most days. I have been asking my husband for a breadmaker for sometime now (hint, hint) in the hopes that it will save me some time each day instead of making loves by hand.
