Can you admit that the living room is one of the main rooms in your house? For most people, it is the perfect place for the family to get together and have a laugh and a joke, or snuggle up to watch the latest films on the TV. But for a lot of people, it is always the most outdated room in the home. Because it doesn’t require a renovation like a bathroom or a kitchen would, the most expensive jobs are usually done first. If you know your living room switch up is just around the corner, here’s how you can make it a family orientated living room.
If you’re going to make it family orientated, it needs to have a lot of space. Now, some people are stuck with really small living rooms, and there’s only so much you can do with the space. So, if you have a dining room joining onto the living room, why not knock the wall through and create an extended living room. The dining room doesn’t need to be too big, and the bigger the living room the more family fun that can be had. You also want to make sure you’re buying the best furniture to utilise the space you have. Designers such as Alexander and James Sofas do some great designs that will use the space in your living room well. The best sofas you can get are corner sofas. They’re longer, curve round the room so that you’re not using up too much space, and will allow more family to cram onto one sofa. The reason why a living room can seem so blocky is due to multiple pieces of furniture being needed. A corner sofa helps take that away. As long as you organise the room right, and move things that don’t necessarily need to be there, perhaps like a random book case, then you’ll soon realise your living room is a lot bigger than you think.
There are some really beautiful living room designs at the minute that will leave the whole family feeling super cosy. One thing you could do is have a lovely fur rug laying next to the fire. It’s perfect for cuddling up on when those cosy film days are in full swing. Keeping things minimal however is going to be suitable for a family living room, so try not to clog things up too much with extra furniture such as coffee tables. If you don’t have a fire, there are plenty of electrical fires that you can have installed which look amazing.
Many people think technology is vital to a family orientated living room, and by technology they often mean the biggest and best TV to make sure your family has a great experience. There are now TV’s with 4K and 3D capabilities, meaning your viewing time is going to be better than ever. You could even go as far as to get a games console such as the Nintendo Wii downstairs to turn those family cosy days into those family competitive days.
We don’t spend much time watching TV these days, so for us a smaller TV works best. But, we have a whole wall in our lounge dedicated to board games! Over 100 games in-fact! Most weekends are spent with friends over, playing some great games. We do own a Wii though… and boy! does it get competitive!
