The sunshine has arrived in Great Britain. It’s starting to feel very hot indeed, and the kids are loving it!
Their summer dresses are out, and Willow has her new pretty school dresses to wear. I have been busy in the garden and the trees are in full blossom. It really is starting to look beautiful, and I have noticed everyones moods lifting. But with the sun shine, comes sun burn. And I must admit that I was caught out, doing the school run, and have very red shoulders. Not fun.
We quickly dashed into town to source some sun hats… which proved near impossible! But we must also remember to wear sun cream. It is so important to protect our children from the harsh sun light. Sun burn in children isn’t only uncomfortable for them but very dangerous. A child’s skin is much ore sensitive to direct sunlight than an adults skin, because the body’s natural defence mechanisms are not yet fully developed. Studies have scarily shown that the chances of developing skin cancer are raised dramatically if a person gets sunburn in childhood. Just one blistering sun burn can double their risks of developing the cancer in later life. A horrible, horrible thought.
Choosing a good sun hat is important. The had should have a wide brim that shaded the face neck and ears, and made of a breathable cotton to keep their little heads cool. Its best to avoid the harsh sunshine from midday until the cooler afternoon- around 3pm ish. Buy a well-covering sun shade for the pram, and sun visors for the next to children’s car seats when traveling on the road. These little adaptions create a much greater level of protection and safety for your child from those harmful UV rays!
And of course a good sun cream too, is a must! Choose a sun cream that has AT LEAST a factor 15+ protection. The Sun Mousse protective sun cream is ideal for keeping wriggly, little, outdoor-loving kids safe! Its a light and moussey (obvs!), fun sun cream. It isn’t sticky or slimy and is so easy to use.
I was instantly impressed with The Sun Mousse. It was baking hot, and the kids were excited to go for a walk across the common, It was the perfect opportunity to put the mousse through it’s paces. If you have ever had to put sun cream on excited and bouncy children you will know how its a battle to keep them still enough to get a good covering of sun cream in place… Luckily, the Sun Mousse is really funny to watch come out of its can… imagine squirty cream being used and you have a good idea how the sun cream looks (and sounds) on its way out! The kids were in hysterics. And so was I! All you need is a golf-ball sized blob, per limb, and rub onto the skin.
The cream goes on very smoothly with excellent coverage in seconds. It doesn’t feel sticky at all, or oily and actually smells nice. It doesn’t have a strong scent, but it certainly isn’t at all nasty smelling, unlike other sensitive sun creams. The Sun Mousse works by using both physically and chemical filters to help block out the suns harmfull rays, and also lasts up to 6 hours, but I think applying every 2 hours is a good idea with any sun cream, especially when playing in water or sand where the sun cream can be washed off. The Sun Mousse is very water resistant though, but they still advise reapplying regularly!
The Sun Mousse For Kids is available in SPF 30 and 50, the adults range come in SPF ranges 20, 30 and 50 and can be purchased from Hunter And Health for £19.99.
