Your bathroom is a part of the house which is one of the most highly used of all. Everyone visits this room at various times in the day, and it is often a place we come at the end of a stressful day to have a shower or a bath and forget about the world for a while. Decorating the bathroom is all about making it cosy and relaxing. It should be a sanctuary which you can escape to and somewhere which you never want to leave. To make your bathroom extra cosy this year, here is what you can do.
The first thing we can consider when making a room cosy is making sure there’s enough heat going into the room. Think about bringing a heated towel rail into the room which will give you somewhere to hang your towels as well as bring heat into the space during the winter. For extra warmth, you can insulate the walls and the floor, add a contemporary designer radiator and even install underfloor heating if you have the money to do so.
Once you have got a lovely warm space to work with, you can think about making sure that your bathroom is comfortable and cosy to stay in for a while. Think about bringing in thick, fluffy towels rather than abrasive ones, make sure you have a bath mat so that you don’t have to step from the shower or bath onto the tiled floor, and think about how wide your shower and bath are. If you have the space, think about getting a larger tub or cubicle installed so that you can really stretch out when soaking in the water.
The colour of any room will immediately set the tone and the mood. If you want to create a warm a cosy space for yourself and your family, you will want to avoid using colour such white and blue, even if this is usually a classic bathroom combination. Think of warm neutrals for the tiles on your walls, and bring in some warmer colours with towels such as red, orange or yellow. All of these will give you a feeling of warmth and comfort and you will be surprised how much of an impact it can have on the area.
The secret to a wonderful bathroom is the atmosphere which you create when you enter the room. This room needs to be suitable for long sits in the bathtub with a good book, so you need to create a relaxing atmosphere just like a spa would. Think of having some incense or a reed diffuser in the room to keep it smelling fresh, light lots of small candles around the room when you step in for a bath, and you can also get yourself some colour changing lights for the bath which will give you some soft lighting while you soak in the tub.
Last but not least, one feature which always works amazingly in the bathroom is plants. Plants work amazingly in this part of the house because the area is steamy and moist throughout the day. You can choose to bring succulent such as cacti or Aloe Vera into the room, or for a splash of colour you can place and orchid on the windowsill and give it minimal water throughout the year.
