Every day during October I shall be writing a post for #Blogtober16. 31 days, 31 themes, 31 blog posts. gulp.
Todays topic is- A secret about myself. Are you ready because this one is a shocker. Its embarrassing, painful and I keep it on the low. Ready? Probably not.
I F****** HATE THE INTERNET.
What? Huh? She’s a blogger? She like, lives on Facebook and Twitter? She’s deluded. A hypocrite. Mental.
But it’s true. Ok, the internet isn’t all bad. Pinterest is fun. I like to look at recipes online and when I was pregnant Dr. Internet was my bestest bud. And none of us can deny the joy of cute cat videos and crap Buzzfeed quizzes. The world wide web is an amazing source of knowledge. Lets not deny that. BUT…
The internet has a lot to answer for. The cost of mental health, addiction, illegal activities and a new form of babysitting. Social media has us craving for ‘likes’ and attention. Instagram see’s us stalking our favourite celebs (guilty your honour). Tinder is, well, just a bit weird.
I miss the days of us calling our mates at night for a chat about our day. Now we just scroll through our friends, family and colleagues posts and give an emotion to which ever ones take our attention. ‘How are you feeling?’ Facebook asks, In all honesty, pretty damn concerned.
If the internet crashed, bye-bye blog. But I’m sure more parents would spend time playing with their children. More adults would learn how to cook and invent their own recipes. More pre-schoolers would be out playing in the mud kitchen, with no app needed! How would we know what your BFF is having for lunch? DW, its probs just avocado on toast again.
I want us to get back to nature and forget about what the rest of the world is up to. I was us to feel our own emotions. I want us to read a book. I want us to look up and see the world, not through a screen but through our eyes.
So yeah, its a pretty dark and depressing admission. But my secret is, I bloody well hate the internet. Sorry guys.
